European Individual Women's Chess Championship: Round 2 Print
Monday, 09 March 2009 10:56

Résumé of the day:  Still a lot of suprises today for this second round of the WIECC. One of the leaders, the Netherland player Peng Zhaoquin was defeated properly against a young Russian girl of 18 years old, Olga Girya.

She took a piece, a queen and finally Peng had to resign, not beeing able to avoid the mate! Svetlana Matveeva, one of the others favorites, lost against the WIM Deimante Daulyte from Lithuania.

On the first board, Nana Dzagnidze, who recently made a performance of 2673 in Gibraltar, had to sack a Knight in endgame for 3 pawns. It was a real black pawns seaquake! Few moves later, Valentina Solovjova resigned... Ushenina, Paehtz and Lilit Mkrtchian (against an other Lilit, Galojan) drew.

An exciting round...3r round to follow tomorrow, 3 pm!

Robert Fontaine (GM) from Europe-Echecs
