The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev came to the Republic of Kalmykia on an official visit on the 1st of March 2011. He conducted working meetings concerning the national policy in the sphere of population employment in the well-known City Chess. The meetings were held in the Conference Hall - the venue of the Women's World Chess Championship 2004.  In the City Chess Palace the Head of state visited an exposition of goods produced by the local enterpreneurs. During his visit to a shop, the President of Russia bought a chess set, having said: "Chess is a worldwide sport. It is a crime not to buy a chess set when in Elista". The President also met with the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Alexey Orlov. The meeting was held in the office of the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. Then Dmitry Medvedev visited the premises of the Elista FIDE Office situated in the Chess Palace.
