Today, January 30, the FIDE President arrived on an official visit to Kiev where he met with Viktor Yanukovych, President of Ukraine, and Ukrainian GM, Women’s World Champion Anna Ushenina. The Ukrainian President awarded Anna Ushenina with Order of Princess Olga for her outstanding victory in the Women’s World Chess Championship. Then Viktor Yanukovich, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Anna Ushenina discussed the perspectives of chess development in Ukraine and in particular the implementation of CIS programme, including of chess in school curriculum. Also the parties discussed the possibilities of holding the major international chess events in Ukraine, particularly Women’s FIDE Grand Prix. The same day President Ilyumzhinov met with Ravil Safiullin, Head of State service for Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
