On 24 December of 2011, in the age of 67, a Russian Grandmaster Vitaly Tseshkovsky (25 September 1944 - 24 December 2011) passed away.

He was Chess Champion of the USSR in 1978 and 1986, the winner of the World Chess Olympiad 1986, European Team Chess Campionship 1977, multiple Russian and World Senior Champion. Three decades ago he moved to Krasnodar where he established one of the best chess schools. Chess was his life and passion till the end of his days.

FIDE expresses its condolences to the family of Vitaly Tseshkovsky.
