The tie-breaks of the third Round made two major stirs. GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu of Romaina knocked out the Ukranian GM Vassily Ivanchuk and GM Evgeny Bareev of Russia won his compatriot Alexander Grischuk. It was difficult to foresee such results judging by the first rapid games when both favourites were so close to victory. However, having lost several opportunities Grischuk ended up in a threefold repetition of the position. Ivanchuk had won his first rapid game but then Nisipeanu gained his excellent revenge in the next game. The Ukranian Grandmaster collapsed in the first blitz game and had to surrender after 22 moves with white. In the second blitz game he managed to win a pawn but even with it he had no chances to win… 8 years ago it was a big sensation during the World Championship in Las Vega when Nisipeanu eliminated Ivanchuk, now in Khanty-Mansyisk he succeeded to repeat his achievement. Grischuk failed even to reach blitz games, his opponent Bareev showed a good performance and technique by winning the second rapid game and qualifying to the next round.

In other four matches there was no surprise. Levon Aronian won Ernesto Inarkiev with the score of 2-0, even though he experienced some serious difficulties in the first game. The match Karjakin-Bacrot was played in the same scenario; the Ukranian Grandmaster had a losing position at the beginning but managed to squeeze a victory and then easily won in the second game. Peter Svidler eliminated his old teammate Rublevsky with the score of 1.5-0.5 and Sasikiran Krishnan beat Macieja twice in blitz after the equal score of 1-1 in rapid games.

In the fourth Round the following pairs are to play: Karjakin-Nisipeanu, Bareev-Alekseev, Yakovenko-Aronian, Shirov-Akopian, Ponomariov-Sasikiran, Kamsky-Svidler, Adams-Carlsen and Wang Yu-Cheparinov. Every participant in these pairs has already secured his prize fund of 25 thousand USD.
