The Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Riga, Latvia last week where he met with the President of Latvia Mr. Valdis Zatler and the Prime Minister of Latvia Mr. Aigars Kalvitis. The perspectives of the further developments of the trade and economic relations between Latvia and Republic of Kalmykia as well as the realization of the program "Chess in School" in Latvia were discussed. The Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Riga, Latvia last week where he met with the President of Latvia Mr. Valdis Zatler and the Prime Minister of Latvia Mr. Aigars Kalvitis. The perspectives of the further developments of the trade and economic relations between Latvia and Republic of Kalmykia as well as the realization of the program "Chess in School" in Latvia were discussed.

Besides, the President of Latvia expressed the wish to organize the World Chess Olympiad 2012 in Riga, Latvia. The application for the organization of this chess event will be sent to the FIDE Secretariat in the nearest future.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Latvia, Mr. Viktor Kalyuzhnyi took part in the meetings as well. As a result of the fruitful negotiations, the FIDE President promised to present the chess sets to the Latvian first-form children.

In the frames of the official visit as FIDE President, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attended the Opening Ceremony of the International Chess tournament which is being held in Latvia now.
