13 June 2007 the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, FIDE President His Excellency Kirsan Ilyumzhinov signed a decree. Taking into consideration prominent contribution to sport propaganda in Kalmykia GM Bolat Assanov of Kazakhstan, FIDE Delegate to the International Olympic Committee, is awarded with the title of Honorary Citizen of Kalmykia.
