FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attended in the 8th Russian Chess Federation Congress which took place on 24 February in the "Ismailovo" complex with 67 delegates, 11 members of Executive Board and 15 Russian Chess Federation Board members participating. There were about 40 guests and many journalists covering one of the important chess events in the Russian chess. The Russian Chess Federation President Alexander Zhukov made a report on the work of the federation for the period of 2003-2006. The delegates highly evaluated the results of the work done during this period.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attended the 8th Russian Chess Federation Congress which took place on 24 February in the "Ismailovo" complex with 67 delegates, 11 members of the RCF Executive Board and 15 members of the RCF Presidential Board participating. There were about 40 guests and many journalists covering one of the important chess events in the Russian chess.

The Russian Chess Federation President Alexander Zhukov made a report on the work of the federation for the period of 2003-2006. The delegates highly evaluated the results of the work done during this period.

The FIDE President made a speech, he greeted all the members and guests of the Congress and briefed them on the situation in FIDE, informed about the reforms that are carried out in the World Chess Federation and about future plans.

One of the important issue of the Congress was the election of the Russian Chess Federation President. Alexander Zhukov was re-elected the Russian Chess Federation President with 75 votes out of 79. The head of the Expert Control Department of the Administration of the President of Russia, Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich was elected the Deputy President of the Russian Chess Federation. The Vice Presidents are Vyacheslav Beresnev, Valery Bovavev, Alexander Kryukov and Alexander Bach. The FIDE Vice President Andrey Selivanov was elected the Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation.

The Deputy President of the Russian Olympic Committee Mr. Gennady Aleshin participated in the work of the Congress as well. He underlined that the Russian Chess Federation is one of the advanced sport federations in Russia. Also he expressed his proud that his compatriot, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is the only Russian leader of the International Sport Organization.

At the end of the Congress, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov awarded the Russian Chess Federation President Alexander Zhukov the "Golden Merit Award" for outstanding contribution to chess development. The name of Alexander Zhukov will be also added to the Golden Book of FIDE. The Chief Editor of "64, Chess Review" Alexander Roshaly was awarded with the Diploma for "Outstanding contribution to the chess popularization in Russia".

The same day there was a blitz chess tournament where outstanding Russian politicians and famous people took part. Andrey Sharonov, the Vice Minister of Economic Development of Russian Federation, Andrey Fursenko, the Minister of Education of Russian Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich, Andrey Selivanov participated in the blitz tournament. Anya Burtasova the Woman International Master of Russia won the competition.
