During 9-10 September 2006, the head of the Republic of Kalmykia, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on an official visit to Montenegro, Herzeg Novi, where, in the city of Herzeg Novi, he participated in the Opening Ceremony of the European Youth Championship 2006 together with the Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Djukanovic. During 9-10 September 2006, the head of the Republic of Kalmykia, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on an official visit to Montenegro, Herzeg Novi, where, in the city of Herzeg Novi, he participated in the Opening Ceremony of the European Youth Championship 2006 together with the Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Djukanovic.

Within the framework of the visit, the FIDE President discussed with the Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Djukanovic various issues of the cooperation between the Republic of Kalmykia and Montenegro, in the framework of the collaboration between Russia and Montenegro.

Also, Mr. Ilyumzhinov visited a World famous Zitin Monastery where, with the consent of the Monastery leaders, he touched the sacred Christian relics – relics of John the Baptist and the Cross. In accordance with the legend, John the Baptist used this relic to baptize Jesus Christ.

During the negotiations of the head of Kalmykia with the leaders of the Monastery, it was preliminarily agreed that the sacred relics will be brought to the to the Kazan Cathedral of Elista later this year. According to Mr. Ilyumzhinov, the people in Kalmykia will have a chance to watch and touch these Christian sacred objects.
