Ignatius Leong is FIDE General Secretary Print

FIDE Vice President Ignatius Leong of Singapore is the new FIDE General Secretary. Mr. Leong was nominated by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and confirmed by the Presidential Board which met in Tbilisi, Georgia from 26-27 February 2005.

FIDE Vice President Ignatius Leong of Singapore is the new FIDE General Secretary. Mr. Leong was nominated by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and confirmed by the Presidential Board which met in Tbilisi, Georgia from 26-27 February 2005.

Mr. Leong has served FIDE as Zone President and currently as Development Commmission Chairman. He replaces Noureddine Tabbane who resigned last October for the remainder of the term until 2006 in accordance with FIDE Statutes that a vacancy is filled from within the board.

Mr. Leong brings with him decades of experience as a FIDE Official and Organizer of numerous FIDE events in Asia and as Chief Arbiter in World events.
