New International Arbiter and FIDE Arbiter Regulations Print

The General Assembly of the 75th FIDE Congress in Calvia, Spain, approved the new regulations for obtaining the titles of FIDE Arbiter (FA) and International Arbiter (IA). The new regulations will be valid from July 1st 2005. The most important change in the regulations is that from July 1st 2005 the title of FIDE Arbiter (FA) is required before obtaining the International Arbiter title (IA). Dear Chessfriends,

1. The General Assembly of the 75th FIDE Congress in Calvia, Spain, approved the new regulations for obtaining the titles of FIDE Arbiter (FA) and International Arbiter (IA).

The new regulations include the amendments that have been approved in all FIDE Congresses from 1998.

According the decision, Article 0.32 of FIDE Handbook (Requirements for the titles of FA and IA) as contained in the regulations.

The new regulations will be valid from July 1st 2005.

2. The most important change in the regulations is that from July 1st 2005 the title of FIDE Arbiter (FA) is required (Article 3.9 ) before obtaining the International Arbiter title (IA).

From July 1st 2005, the Chess Federations must take this regulation into consideration, before applying for the title of International Arbiter (IA) for their Arbiters.

3. Due to complaints that have been recently expressed to FIDE, for false norm reports that Federations have sent to FIDE and have been used for obtaining the title of IA or FA, the Federations are kindly requested to check thoroughly and verify (all forms must be signed and have the signature of authorized persons from the Federations) their norm reports for the titles, so that such cases cad be avoided.

4. Chess Federations are also kindly requested to send to the FIDE Office/ Arbiters’ Council lists including their International Arbiters (IA) and FIDE Arbiters (FA) (active and non active), so that the Council will be able to finalize the database of all chess International and FIDE Arbiters, as soon as possible.
