Circular Letter No. 05/2004
We are sorry to inform you that at the age of 60, the President of the French Chess Federation Jean-Claude Loubatiere passed away on 7 April 2004. Longtime Technical Director, he overtook the post of President in 1989 and created a strong and modern federation. We have expressed our sincere sympathies to his family and to the French Chess Federation.
As we are informed the Associations of Chess Professionals will advise all their members not to take part in the upcoming European Individual Championship which is going to be held in Kemer-Beldibi/Turkey. The reason is that participants are obliged to stay in the official hotel. You know, as it was published in the previous Circular Letter, that this issue will be taken up by the ECU Board with the aim to change the respective tournament regulations. Such a final adaptation of the rules have to be accepted by the 2004 General Assembly at the end of this year. Up to that time we have to follow the current regulations. Therefore, we would like to ask you to recommend your players to participate in this European Individual Championship which is a qualification to the World Championship.
