The great Russian resort Sochi welcomed the Heads of regions, members of the Southern Federal Okrug of the Russian Federation, on the 26th of March 2004. The President of Russia Mr. Vladimir Putin attended the Forum and had a number of working meetings with the officials. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was honored to have a face-to-face conversation with the Russian President that lasted for more than one hour. Among other important issues Mr. Putin expressed his keen interest in the development of chess in the world and the latest trip of the FIDE President to Libya on the invitation of its Leader HE Moammar Al Gathafi. Mr. Ilyumzhinov informed the President that the capital of the Libyan Jamahirya will be the venue for the coming World Chess Championship in June-July this year. He also passed the official invitation from Moammar Al Gathafi to Vladimir Putin to attend this significant chess event. See more photos
