Inauguration of the FIDE Trainer Academy Print

The President of the German Chess Federation Mr. Alfred Schlya welcomed numerous guests of the inauguration of the FIDE Trainer Academy on the site of Berlin Olympiastadion on 15 December 2003. Mr. Otto Schily (Federal Minister of Interior), Mr. Ivo Vajgl (Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia), Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili (FIDE Vice President), Mr. Noureddine Tabbane (FIDE General Secretary) and Mr. Boris Kutin (ECU President) attended the presentation. Mr. Otto Schily (Federal Minister of Interior), Mr. Ivo Vajgl (Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia), Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili (FIDE Vice President), Mr. Noureddine Tabbane (FIDE General Secretary) and Mr. Boris Kutin (ECU President) attended the presentation.
The Trainer Academy will be supported by the Federal Minister of the Interior, Senate of Berlin, FIDE and the German Chess Federation. In the welcoming speech Mr. Otto Schily stated self-ironically that he would need some chess training as well. Together with Mr. Alfred Schlya he would stand up for the establishment of the Trainer Academy in Berlin. Mr. Otto Schily also supports the initiative to establish chess as an Olympic discipline and to hold the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden. The Federal Minister ended his speech with the words: "Chess enthusiasm in Germany is increasing." According to the FIDE Vice President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, the FIDE Trainer Academy is a milestone in the cooperation with the German Chess Federation. He particularly thanked Mr. Otto Schily and Mr. Alfred Schlya for the support and ended with the slogan of FIDE: Gens una sumus. A blitz game between Mr. Otto Schily and the European Champion Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili ended in a draw. The German National Trainer Mr. Uwe Bonsch gave a speech about the chess training. He emphasized the differences between group and individual training.
A meeting between FIDE representatives and members of the Presidential Board of the German Chess Federation took place after the official Opening Ceremony. It was agreed that all necessary details concerning the work of this Academy should be negotiated between Mr. Yuri Rasuvaev as Chairman of FIDE Trainers Committee and the German Chess Federation. FIDE Presidential Board will give its final approval.
