The Traditional Biel International Chess Festival will take place from 19th July-1st August 2003. The attention of the Chess World will be drawn to the GM Tournament of 16 Category in which 6 strong chess players will participate. GM Alexander Morozevich (RUS), GM Ilya Smirin (ISR), GM Etienne Bacrot (FRA),GM Christopher Lutz (GER), GM Viktor Kortchnoi (SUI), GM Yannick Pelletier (SUI) will compete with Elo average of 2648. GM Alexander Morozevich (RUS), GM Ilya Smirin (ISR), GM Etienne Bacrot (FRA),GM Christopher Lutz (GER), GM Viktor Kortchnoi (SUI), GM Yannick Pelletier (SUI) will compete with Elo average of 2648. Ilya Smirin will come back to defend the title he won last year. Alexander Morozevich will come to Biel for the first time of his carrier. For Etienne Bacrot, seven years after his last visit in Biel, it will be his first participation in the GM Tournament. The last presence from Christopher Lutz in the tournament was in 1988. The two best Swiss players will complete the field, with Viktor Kortchnoi (winner in 2001) and Yannick Pelletier, that will play in his home city for the first time since he is over 2600 Elo points. Among the other events, please take note: the Active Chess (July 19-20), the Blitz tournament (July 26) and different Open. The strong Master Open expects about players (11 rounds).
