After 5 rounds Ivanchuk is leading without a loss, followed by Shirov and Lahno

GM Vassily Ivanchuk had a fantastic start of the VII Festival Internacional de Ajedrez Hotel Bali, Benidorm. After 5 rounds he is top of the table with full 4,5/5, defeating GM Lahno, WGM Vega Gutierrez, IM Vila Gazquez, GM Tiviakov, and drawing the round 5 game with GM Shirov.

GM Shirov is holding the second position after defeating the youngsters and GM Tiviakov, but not managing to hold GM Lahno. With this victory the European Women Champion GM Lahno is third, 1,5 points behind Ivanchuk

WGM Vega Gutierrez is enjoying the experience of the tournament, where she is playing with grandmasters 400+ Elo ponts above her ELO. Yet, she managed to hold two European champions - the 2008 European champion GM Tiviakov and the new U18 European Champion IM Vila Gazquez.
