A crucial last round victory against the future star Ray Robson propelled the former US champion Alexander Onischuk to the clear first place in the 2010 SPICE Cup GMA
. German GM Georg Meier enjoyed a one point advantage prior to the final act, but the Blbao scoring system (3 points for a win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss) favoured decisive games.

GM Georgi Kacheishvili (Georgia) won the 2010 SPICE Cup FIDE Open with the score of 5.5 / 6.
