Present: E. Polyhroniade (ROM), W. Iclicki (BEI.), Chen Jun (CHI), A. Hajian (USA), G.A. Qaderi (AFG), M.S. Yousufzai (AFG). The Chairman discussed matters relevant to the efforts being conducted in the CHIPS realm with participating journalists, federation representatives and others.

REPORT OF THE CHESS INFORMATION, PUBLICATION AND STATISTICS COMMITTEE (CHIPS)

In 2002, the CHIPS Committee has undertaken the following works: a) The CHIPS Committee members conduct active journalistic work and edit chess magazines. As reporters, they were present at many great events covering their course in mass media during the year. Members of the committee do a fruitful performance in their home-countries and international sphere. b.) Two issues of News of CHIPS were prepared which will be sent to all member federations of FIDE and chess magazines by the end of the current year. c.) The works on World Chess Media handbook continue. d.) The CHIPS Committee cooperates with national chess magazines and Internet websites. e.) In 2002 preparation works on holding an international meeting of chess journalists and a World Championship of chess journalists with agreement with the Biel Festival organizers were conducted. Due to financial problems the event is intended to be postponed from 2002 to 2003. f.) Chairman of the CHIPS Committee has prepared a projection management of press centers of World Championships, World Olympiads and other official tournaments. After discussions by the committee members this document will be presented to the FIDE Presidential Board and Executive Board. g.) During the 2001 meeting, the CHIPS Committee resolved to organize the accreditation of the chess journalists with CHIPS. Due to absents of sponsorship the decision was failed to realize. In case of sufficient financial and the project can be fulfilled during several months.
