D.VI.04. Asian Women`s Championship

Amended by the 1993 General Assembly.

 

Frequency

     

A competition shall be held once in two years for the title of Asian Women`s Champion. It shall be organised by one of the federations of Zones 3.1 to 3.4.

Participation

 

Women players from the federations in Zones 3.1 to 3.4 are entitled to participate.

The current Asian Women`s Champion shall have a personal right to participate.

Each affiliated federation shall have the right to send one representative. The organizing federation shall have a second place in the tournament, and holds a player in reserve to make an even number of participants if necessary. The Continental President shall be empowered to allow additional participants from federations represented so as to have at least 14 participants.

Organisation

 

When there are 14 or fewer participants a round robin competition shall be held. When the number of participants exceeds 14, a Swiss system competition of 13 rounds shall be held.

The FIDE Continental President for Asia shall supervise the organisation of the championship. Invitations to all federations entitled to compete shall be distributed at least four months before the championship is due to begin.

Participants shall register with the organisers their intention to participate at least two months before the competition is due to begin, with a copy to the FIDE Continental President for Asia. The organizing federation shall have the right to reject registrations received after this date. If at this time the Continental President finds there are less than 14 participants he shall act under Article 4.

Playing Conditions

 

The tournament shall be played according to FIDE regulations.

The time limit is 40 moves in 100 minutes, then 20 moves in 20 minutes and finally 10 minutes for the remaining moves. From move 1 30 seconds will be added after each move. The games shall be played using the DGT clocks

Two rounds a day may be played. Provision shall be made for one or more free days on which there shall be no play.

Chief Arbiter and his Assistants

 

The FIDE Continental President for Asia shall, after consulting with the organizing federation, nominate the Chief Arbiter, as well as the necessary assistant arbiters and other officials.

Any protest, including protests against decisions of the Chief Arbiter or his assistants, must be submitted in writing to the Chief Arbiter within two hours after completion of the playing session.

Appeals Committee

 

Before the beginning of the tournament an Appeals Committee shall be selected. This committee shall consist of five members and two reserves, chosen by the players from among themselves or the representatives of

national federations present. The persons chosen for the Appeals Committee should represent seven different federations. The Chief Arbiter shall be chairman of the Appeals Committee, but he shall not vote on any question except when the voting is even.

No member of the committee shall have the right to decide on questions concerning his own federation. In such cases the member concerned shall have the right only to partake in the discussion in the committee.

Designation of the Winner

 

If at the end of the tournament two or more players are tied for first place, the tie shall be broken by the tie-break system specified in FIDE Tournament Rules C.05, Chapter VIII.

In case the above does not produce a decision, each of the players remaining tied for first place shall be declared Asian Women`s co-champion.

Financial Regulations and Prizes

 

(GA `93) The Asian Women`s Champion (or co-champions) shall be awarded the title of FIDE Woman International Master.

The travelling expenses of the participants are to be paid by their national federations, while board, lodging and pocket money shall be provided by the organising federation. The organising federation shall provide appropriate trophies and souvenirs.
