Turkish Chess Federation Elections Print

Turkish Chess Federation’s ordinary general assembly has been completed on November, 5th in Ankara HILTON Hotel. Ali Nihat Yazici, who was the TCF’s president for twelve years, decided not to be a candidate in this assembly. There were 2 candidates who were struggling for the presidency, named as Gulkiz Tulay and Cengiz Keles.

Gulkiz Tulay, who was also supported by the former president Ali Nihat Yazici, has been elected as the new president of Turkish Chess Federation with a huge vote difference. The new president succeeded to get 108 votes out of 157.

Gülkız Tulay was born in Sivas/TURKEY on February 8th, 1962. She had graduated from Cukurova University. Her major was in business management, which was followed by an economics major in Anadolu University.

She has started her business life in Kurt Group Companies as a managing partner, where she had dealed with construction, industry and agriculture. Her career actively continued until 2001 and now the new generation of the family carries on with the businesses with an additional business line that is textile manufacturing&trading.

In 1999, she has founded the very first training chess club of Turkey which is named as Tarsus Zeka Chess Club. Two years later, second club was formed in Mersin as an extension of Zeka Chess Club. Her chess club currently has the most number of licensed chess players in Turkey. In 2003, Tarsus Zeka Chess Club started to take part in the Turkish Chess League and it still continues its struggle succesfully.

In 2004 elections she has entered the presidential board of Turkish Chess Federation as the only woman member of the board. She continued her succesful career in the presidential board once again with the new elections in 2008. She became the vice-president in 2010 and concentrated especially on the national teams and the youth system which is followed by lots of succeses for Turkey.

Gülkız has a son and a daughter who are also chess players. They both had national and international achievements in chess in the past. Nowadays, her son continues his business life and her daughter continues her education. At the same time, they continue playing chess in the leagues.
