Groningen Masters 2015

The 53rd Groningen Chess Festival was organized from December 21st to December 30th, 2015, at Sportcentrum Rijksuniversiteit & Hanzehogeschool, in Groningen, Netherlands.

The event was highlighted by a 9-round Swiss Master Section, open to all players rated above 2000 Elo.

The 16-year-old Dutch prodigy IM Jorden Van Foreest clinched the title on a superior tie-break score after sharing first place with GM Sundar Shyam from India at 7.5/9 points. The winners left the nearest followers a full point behind.

Five participants tied for the third place with 6.5 points each: Israeli GM Avital Boruchovsky, Russian IM Saveliy Golubov and Dutch players Barry Brink, FM Ivo Maris and IM Stefan Kuipers.

The best female player was WIM Tatiana Kasparova who scored 4.5 points to finished 36th in the final ranking.

A parallel match between experienced player GM Sipke Ernst and talented 14-year old Lucas Van Foreest was organized in 6 rounds and Ernst emerged a convincing winner with 4 victories and 2 draws.
