During his recent visit to Mauritania, FIDE Executive Director, Grandmaster Victor Bologan held a series of high-level meetings with government and sports officials to discuss the development of chess in the country.
The advisor to the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports, and Civic Service, Souleymane Lo, welcomed Victor Bologan alongside the President of the Mauritanian Chess Federation, Sidi Mohamed Tajedine.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess efforts to develop chess in Mauritania and to explore possibilities for strengthening cooperation with FIDE, with discussions focusing on promoting the game, supporting young talent, and expanding school chess programs.
FIDE Executive Director also met with the President of the Mauritanian National Olympic and Sports Committee, Abderrahmane Othman, accompanied by its Secretary General, Salem Abeidna, in the presence of the President of the Mauritanian Chess Federation.
Discussions centered on strategies to expand chess in schools and among female players. The group also covered other key topics, including the participation of Mauritanian national teams in the upcoming 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
As part of his visit, Victor Bologan gave a simultaneous exhibition against top local male and female players.
