Alireza Firouzja emerged as the winner of the fourth edition of the Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters. The Iran-born Frenchman scored 4.5/7 and finished a half-point ahead of Dmitry Andreikin and Arjun Erigaisi.
The fourth edition of the Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters, India’s strongest classical chess tournament, featured a highly competitive field of closely rated players. Firouzja seized an early lead with victories over Pranesh M and World Champion Gukesh D, and never relinquished this position, despite drawing the rest of his games.
Heading into the final round a half-point ahead of Erigaisi and Nodirbek Abdusattorov, he faced Erigaisi with the white pieces, while Abdusattorov took on Andreikin with Black.
Firouzja confidently steered the game toward a draw and secured the title. Meanwhile, Andreikin, who had drawn his first six games, prevailed over Abdusattorov in a topsy-turvy encounter to catch up with Erigaisi for shared second place. Thanks to a slightly better tiebreak, Andreikin claimed second position in the final standings. Abdusattorov, Pranesh, and Nihal Sarin finished with a 50% score of 3½/7.
Notably, the winner and the runner-up completed the tournament undefeated.
