EWCC 2023: Oliwia Kiolbasa leads at halfway

Oliwia Kiolbasa grabbed the top position at the European Women’s Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro, at the halfway point. In Round 6, the Polish IM defeated IM Irina Bulmaga (Romania) and now leads the field with 5.5/6 coming into the rest day.

The defending champion GM Monica Socko (Poland, pictured below) and IM Narva Mai (Estonia) are trailing by a half-point, sharing second place.

As many as fifteen players, including IM Yuliia Osmak (Ukraine), IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (Poland), IM Lilit Mkrtchian (Armenia), the 2021 Champion GM Elina Danielian (Armenia) and GM Bella Khotenashvili (Georgia), are tied for fourth place on 4.5/6 and also stay in the race for gold.
